Never been a big fan of hiking – and then trekking in Nepal happened

If you can see your breath moving around your room at night than you definitively know that trekking over 2,000 meters altitude has finally started. From now on we are going up 400-800 meters every day – our target: ABC – Annapurna Basecamp.

Actually I have never been a big fan of hiking (my grand parents can tell) – so for me the trekking tour to ABC is an experience at my limits. Every day I am hiking 5-6 hours in funny trekking clothes – climbing uneven stone steps for two or more hours. Always heading uphill intermitted by tee and lunchbreaks with Dal Bhat or Porridge. In the evenings we are all sitting together close to the cosy oven warming our fingers up with lemon tee. At night I wear warm socks, long trousers, a pullover and scarf and are covered by an enormous mass of blankets and sleeping bags. Heating is not available anymore.

This tour definitively is NO LUXURY HOLIDAY TRIP. So why am I doing that? I am curious, adventurous, want to try new things out of my easy-to-live-in comfort zone. And actually guys – I discovered that trekking in Nepal – even if it is unbelievably exhausting – makes me calm down. The moment when you see the tops of seven of the highest mountains in the world are twinkling through the clouds your mouth will definitively take away your breath.

Tomorrow – thanks god – we are heading downhill to 2,700 meters before going up again to 3,300 – everyday focused at our target – Annapurna Base Camp.
